The Universidad Politécnica de Madrid's Master in Artificial Intelligence, organized and taught by the Department of Artificial Intelligence (DIA), is part of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid Facultad de Informática's postgraduate course offering.
The Master in Artificial Intelligence is the Bologna-compliant adaptation of the former Research Master in Artificial Intelligence.
To qualify for the degree of Master in Artificial Intelligence, students should earn 60 ECTS, of which 35 are for semester-long optional subjects, 10 are for seminars and 15 are associated with the master's degree final project.
The subjects and seminars in the degree programme are divided into a total of 9 course units, six of which cover different disciplines within artificial intelligence: decision analysis, data mining, natural computing, computational logic, knowledge representation and reasoning models, robotics and computer perception. Other course units cover the foundations of research, application areas and seminars taught by internationally reputed guest lecturers, who will teach advanced or specialized contents.
A total of 35 places are now on offer. The degree targets two student profiles: i) students interested in specializing in one or more specific artificial intelligence disciplines, who will tend to take all the subjects and some seminars covering their field or fields of interest, and ii) students looking for an overview, that is, broader-based knowledge of all the subjects taught as part of the Master in Artificial Intelligence, who will take subjects from all the course units.
The tuition languages are Spanish and English. Additionally, the offer of subjects and seminars taught in English is such that any international student can take the entire master's degree in English.
Master in Artificial Intelligence provides the foundation for the UPM’s Doctorate in Artificial Intelligence, which is the Bologna-compliant adaptation of the doctorate programme taught prior to 2009/10.
Finally, note that the Research Master in AI has competed for and received Ministry of Science and Innovation funding for guest lecturer mobility in recent academic years.
The degree programme has been structured so that students have to earn 60 ECTS to qualify for their master's degree. Credits are distributed as follows:
- 35 credits for semester-long optional course units (5 ECTS each),
- 10 credits for seminars (2 ECTS each), and
- 15 credits for the master final project.
Accordingly, students will have to pass 7 course units (all optional) and 5 seminars, as well as satisfactorily defending their master final project before an examination board.
The tuition languages are Spanish and English. English-speaking international students can take the entire master's degree in English, as 10 subjects and 14 seminars are taught in English.
All the course units on offer are taught in the first semester, leaving the second semester for seminars and master's degree final project.
The Master in Artificial Intelligence targets students interested in artificial intelligence.
