Mission
No sooner had it been set up in 1976 than Universidad Politécnica de Madrid's Facultad de Informática was keeping up the university's tradition of providing engineers with distinguished training and of serving society. The pioneer of Spanish higher education in informatics engineering, the Facultad de Informática is a national and international beacon for the informatics industry, commerce and other teaching institutions.
Subject to stringent quality standards and in compliance with the UPM's mission, its goal is to:
- Provide first-rate undergraduate, postgraduate and continuous education in informatics engineering, enhanced by internationalization, links with industry, government and commerce and the encouragement of an enterprising and engineering spirit.
- Promote, support, drive and implement research and technology transfer initiatives and activities and links with industry and commerce to contribute to the sustainable development of society.
- Start up and participate in activities related to the information and communication technologies (ICT) field.
Vision
The UPM's Facultad de Informática aims to be a leading organization in the ICT environment characterized by:
- Competitive undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses and a continuous training programme in compliance with the accreditation guidelines of European and other internationally recognized engineering institutions
- Qualified faculty members, capable of relating tuition to research activities and working advances into training and educational innovation programmes, scientific production and technology transfer and development cooperation
- Well-trained professional administrative and services staff
- An effective and efficient organization and management of services and financial resources
- Attracting all students looking to pursue an career in informatics engineering, professionally recognized for its high quality education
- Encouraging graduates to participate in the Facultad de Informática's activities and start up technology-based enterprises linked to the UPM's Science and Technology Park
- Enlisting national and international universities, organizations and companies to enter into educational cooperation agreements and/or develop R&D&I programmes
- Facilities, like the library, lecture theatres, laboratories, cafeteria, etc., compliant with applicable quality, health and safety, accessibility and environmental standards
- An advanced management model underpinning a strategy consistent with the Facultad de Informática's specific features and conforming to UPM guidelines
Principles
Out of respect for diversity, ability and dignity as universal values of the members of the higher education community at the Facultad de Informática, we attach special importance to the following principles:
