We are really delighted that you have chosen our centre to carry out your exchange programme and we are convinced that your study stay as well as your stay in Spain will be very pleasant and valuable for your academic, professional and personal future.
This page contains useful information for foreign students who wish to spend a study stay at ETSIINF through exchange programmes.
If the information you are looking for is not here, please contact the External Relations Office (OREX) and we will be happy to help you.
Access to ETSIINF
Foreign students interested in a stay at ETSIINF should contact the international office of their university or centre of origin and check whether or not there is a student exchange agreement in place.
If there is an agreement, students can apply for admission through their international offices (more information).
If no agreement exists, they should consult with their international offices about the possibility of establishing one. If this is not possible, it is possible to be admitted as a visiting student (without an agreement). (more information)

Choosing the subjects
Some factors are essential for a good choice of subjects for students coming to ETSIINF on exchange programmes. They are listed according to the type of study programme.
Catalogue of subjects taught in English for the 2024-25 academic year
Bachelor students
The following degree programmes are taught at ETSIINF:
- Grado en Ingeniería Informática
- Grado en Matemáticas e Informática
- Grado en Ciencia de Datos e Inteligencia Artificial
- Doble grado en Ingeniería Informática y Administración de Empresas
Exchange students can choose subjects from any of the 4 degrees indistinctly. It should also be noted that several of the subjects in one programme (mainly those in the first years) have equivalents in the other programmes.
All subjects available to exchange students are taught in Spanish, but the «International Leadership» group teaches some subjects in English.
There is a document called «Learning Guide» for each and every subject at ETSIINF. This document contains all the important information about the subject (content, teaching staff, language of instruction, evaluation method, etc.). However, the dates of the exams are not usually published in them, although they are published with an approximate week in which they will take place. Exam dates are published in separate documents for each degree programme.
The subjects in the degree programmes are designed to be taken in consecutive years. For this reason, class schedules are divided by semester and are all presented in one document for the same semester. In addition to that, each course can have more than one group, and if this is the case, all compulsory subjects will be available for all groups listed.
In the timetable documents, the different groups are in the same document on separate pages. Please note that there are no restrictions for students in terms of the groups they choose, the year to which each subject belongs, the programme to which each subject belongs, etc. It is simply necessary to know what all these data mean in order to make the right choice of subjects and groups.
Another factor to be taken into account is the timetables of assessment activities, which appear in the timetable documents of each course. They are always the same for a certain course regardless of the group chosen. Subjects can define as examination time either a time in their own class or an interval in the timetable of assessment activities of their course.
It is guaranteed that, between subjects of the same year, the examination times for each subject never overlap. However, for subjects from different courses it is the student’s responsibility to choose subjects that, if they are from different courses, do not have overlapping assessment timetables. It is not forbidden to choose subjects with such an overlapping timetable if they are from different courses, but the possible case of exams in the same timetable is not a factor that justifies not taking one of them. The lists of subjects, their subject guides and timetables can be found at:
- Subjects: Grado en Ingeniería Informática, Grado en Matemáticas e Informática, Grado en Ciencia de Datos e Inteligencia Artificial, Doble Grado en Ingeniería Informática y Administración de Empresas
- Syllabus: Grado en Ingeniería Informática, Grado en Matemáticas e Informática, Grado en Ciencia de Datos en Inteligencia Artificial, Doble Grado en Ingeniería Informática y Administración de Empresas
- Timetables: Grado en Ingeniería Informática, Grado en Matemáticas e Informática, Grado en Ciencia de Datos e Inteligencia Artificial, Doble Grado en Ingeniería Informática y Administración de Empresas
Graduate students
Students who come to the ETSIINF from master’s courses can choose both undergraduate subjects, whose recommendations are mentioned in the previous point, and master’s degrees. In this way, we recommend choosing the subjects following both the previous point and the official pages of the master’s degrees offered at this school, which are listed below:
- Máster Universitario en Ingeniería Informática
- Máster Universitario en Ingeniería del Software – European Master on Software Engineering
- Máster Universitario en Inteligencia Artificial
- Máster Universitario en Software y Sistemas
- Master’s Programme in ICT Innovation: Data Science (EIT Digital Master School)
- Master’s Programme in ICT Innovation: Human-Computer Interaction and Design (EIT Digital Master School)
- Master of Science in Health & Medical Data Analytics (EIT Health)
- Máster Universitario en Ciencia de Datos
- Máster Interuniversitario en Métodos Formales en Ingeniería Informática
Course With Restrictions
Some courses have a quota for mobility students.
If you want to enroll in one of these courses, you must first apply using the following Office Form :
- FALL Semester: July 15th (open from June 10th).
- SPRING Semester: December 31st (open from November 11th).
After that, the course coordinators will accept/deny applicants before the beginning of the semester.
Please do not include this course on your Learning Agreement until you were accepted by the course coordinators. Learning Agreements including those courses will not be signed or rejected until the approvement of the course coordinators.
Subjects from other UPM Schools can be taken but must be previously accepted by the destination School. In addition, more than 50% of the courses must be taken at the ETSIINF. Students must take into account the different locations and schedules of each School.
Master’s Thesis at ETSIINF
Mobility students interested in completing their Master’s Thesis at ETSIINF can choose projects with different academic weights: 30 ECTS, 18 ECTS, or 12 ECTS. The thesis involves conducting a research or technological innovation project under the supervision of a tutor from the school and adhering to the institution’s academic standards. Both the thesis report and the public defense are mandatory for the successful completion of the Master’s Thesis.
Students may contact professors teaching subjects related to their areas of interest or consult with the International Relations Office (OREX) to explore the school’s research lines and receive support in finding a suitable project. The thesis report, approximately 50 pages long, must be prepared following the tutor’s guidance. It can be either public or confidential, depending on the nature of the work. The mandatory public defense will take place at the end of the semester before a committee of three professors, who will evaluate both the quality of the work and the student’s presentation skills.
Enrollment
The registration of all exchange students will be carried out exclusively by the External Relations Office of the centre.
In order to register, the Academic Agreement must be duly completed and must reflect the subjects that the student really wants to take. If it is necessary to make changes to the initial Academic Agreement, these may be made within a maximum period of ten days from the start of the academic year. During this period, exchange students must communicate these changes to the External Relations Office as soon as possible in order to redo the Academic Agreement and send it to their home university, or on the contrary, they must communicate that the initial content of the Academic Agreement is valid and correct. Without this requirement it is NOT possible to register.
It is strongly recommended that students make sure that the subjects that appear on the Academic Agreement are the ones they really want to take, that they belong to the appropriate semester and that the timetable does not overlap with other subjects.
The Learning Agreement should be sent digitally (EWP) or through email by:
- FALL Semester: July 15th.
- SPRING Semester: January 10th.
Updates or changes on the Learning Agreement will be accepted until:
- FALL Semester: 1st October.
- SPRING Semester: 15th February.
Enrolment will be done by semesters. Each semester has a registration period (July-September and January-February).
Once enrolment has been completed, students will be notified by e-mail so that they can request, on-line, their @alumnos.upm.es e-mail account. This e-mail address is essential to access the UPM network services (Virtual Polytechnic, tele-teaching platforms, wireless network, e-mail, etc.).
Welcome Session
During the first days of each semester a presentation will be held for international mobility students:
- FALL Semester 24/25: 10th September at 13:30, H-1003 (Block 1).
- SPRING Semester 24/25: 4th February at 13:30, H-1003 (Block 1).
